Final Day of School...

Can't believe that the final day of school year 2013-2014 is here already.
Students enjoyed Game Morning followed by Pizza lunch facilitated by our Parent Volunteers.  Once again, we wish to thank all Upper Elementary families for making it such a productive and memorable year for all of us.

On a side note, it's still not too late to enroll your child in our exciting summer camps at JBMA.  For more information, please see our school website.

Life is good!!

At JBMA we believe in WorK Hard, Play Hard!!  While this has been a busy time with final projects and assessments, we did not forget to entertain ourselves.

Students enjoying warm and fresh donuts delivered straight from the oven of Krispy Kreme (with bonus head gears.)

Enjoying a lovely afternoon in the playground followed by live entertainment by Dr. Jeff

In the Final Quarter

During the final weeks of academic year, we continued to work on Cultural projects and presentations.   Here is a sneak peak at some of the activities we did:

In the Middle Ages:
During cultural history session, sixth graders presented their Middle Ages research in their creative ways to the class:

Sophie sharing her research about Celtic Rebellion

Lily presenting her research about illnesses during the time

Deven with his Joust replica

Ryan sharing his poster on Knights in the Middle Ages

Hadi talking about interesting sports activities during the Middle Ages

Popcorn anyone?

In science we looked at 3 forms of heat energy by making popcorn using convection, conduction and radiation.
convection
conduction

radiation

And enjoyed some of our final product!

Wind energy is cool

We studied renewable and non-renewable energy resources, and students created their own colorful way to capture wind energy, with pinwheels.

Team Spirit:

Upper Elementary students challenged themselves and worked on several TeamBuilding activities and worked in cooperative groups to accomplish various tasks within the allotted time.

Conquering Africa!!

This quarter in geography, we have been working diligently on our mapping skills particularly the maps of South and Central America.
Inspired by the sessions, two of our sixth grade geography whizz took a challenge upon themselves to learn and master the map of Africa without using any resources.
They thoroughly studied and practiced the map outline several times using resources in the classroom.  After various trials and errors, together Ryan Aldaher and Eden Young made a 100% score on the "Africa Online Challenge Activity"
So proud of you both!!

Move Up Day

Today, the third graders (our future fourth graders) visited with us for an hour to get a first-hand experience of Upper Elementary work cycle.  They shadowed the current fourth graders and worked on some of the language, math and cultural jobs while learned some of the Upper El work routine procedures including the workplan.  At the same time the fourth graders enjoyed mentoring our guests.
Similarly, the sixth graders had an opportunity to visit the Middle school this morning.

Teacher Appreciation Week

We would like to THANK our PTO as well as all JBMA families for spoiling us this week with your generosity.  Additionally, Tuesday breakfast and Friday lunch by the PTO and volunteer parents was greatly appreciated by each one of us.  We utterly enjoyed getting pampered this week!!
